STAY SAFE & RWOs (Repairable Write Offs)
As the Industry is aware the NSW Government is currently reviewing Written Off vehicles. To this end, MTA NSW will be utilising all the information it receives on RWOs, as part of MTA’s formal submission to the NSW Government’s review of Written Off vehicles.
Evidence is also arising on poorly repaired vehicles through Insurer-led 2 quote tendering processes that will require being forwarded to the Stay Safe Committee for review of this Insurer practice. MTA NSW is committed to working with all stakeholders within the framework of the MVIRI Code of Conduct where possible to ensure that the general public is protected from practises that diminish the quality of repairs that are being authorised by Insurers.
Congratulations to GIO for authorising RTRM quotes
SUNCORP/GIO is currently training Assessors to handle RTRM estimates to ensure its compliance with the MVIRI Code of Conduct. MTA NSW has received advice that along with GIO, more Insurers are accepting Realistic Times & Rates estimates submitted by Repairers.
Imported Parts & the Code of Conduct
MTA NSW is advising the Repair Industry that imported overseas parts may not comply with Australian Design Rules. It is the responsibility of Insurers when adjusting estimates that parts that they recommend are compliant to applicable ADRs. Repairers should also request proof from suppliers or from the Insurer that all parts requested by an Insurer meet the requirements necessary to ensure that all parts fitted meet, where necessary, ADR requirements.
New Collision Inspection Centre Opens
MTA NSW would like to advise the Body Repair Industry that a new resource for the general public to call on for help with dealing with shoddy or unsafe repairs has recently opened.
“Its purpose is to increase the levels of public awareness of the dangerously inferior repair methods used in the motor vehicle collision repair industry. It is designed to promote for a better understanding of the significance of collision repair ‘crashworthiness’ and why structural integrity is paramount.
