Office of Fair Trading “Compliance Notice”
Recent seminars held for the repairers in the Liverpool and Macarthur district by the Office of Fair Trading covered the following requirements of the MVRIA relating to an inspection:
1. That the repairer is licensed for the repairs being carried out or advertised.
2. That the repairer is trading from the address as nominated on their licence.
3. That the trading name as displayed onsite or through advertisement is the trading name as listed on the licence.
4. That a sign is displayed in a prominent place depicting the words 'licensed vehicle repairer' and 'licence number' followed by the number. The sign must also display the categories of repair work that the licence permits the repairer to carry out. The font must be a minimum of 65 millimetres in height.
5. That the licence itself is displayed on the premises. Generally this will be in the office or behind the counter.
6. That if trading under a registered business name that the business name certificate is displayed. Again generally this will be in the office of behind the counter.
7. That all employees that carry out repair work on vehicles hold trade certificates or are an apprentice and are being supervised.
8. That any repairer onsite acting on a subcontract basis is licensed.
9. That a register is being kept of all traceable parts whether obtained by purchase or other means i.e. from vehicles repaired or free acquisition.
