MTA Pre Purchase Vehicle Inspection
Buying a vehicle privately carries a real safety risk because the seller does not have to make sure the car is safe. A licensed dealer on the other hand must ensure the vehicle they sell is roadworthy.
A buyer can have the vehicle inspected to identify anything that may require attention. Buyers are far better off finding out if a car requires expensive repairs before handing over money.
All MTA inspection stations have been rigorously checked to ensure that every inspection is done professionally and competently. One of the advantages of the MTA's pre purchase vehicle inspection is that once the report is done, it can be emailed to the customer and there no need to wait for a posted hardcopy.
The MTA service is not just for buyers. If a person is selling a car they can have an inspection completed and prospective purchasers can view the report when deciding if they want to buy the car.

How does the Pre Purchase Vehicle Service Operate?
The MTA license independent businesses to conduct the inspections. These businesses are required to ensure that employees examining vehicles attend face to face training by an authorised user conducted by the MTA and themselves.
Accredited inspectors must abide by specific rules. Any breach of these rules could result in their approval to conduct inspections being terminated permanently.
Peace of mind for car buyers = MTA Approved Inspection
The Motor Traders' Association of NSW provides peace of mind for car buyers with a pre purchase vehicle inspection service. A similar service was previously provided by a motoring association but discontinued twelve months ago.
It left a big hole that required 12 months of planning and testing by the MTA to gear up in readiness for the new service.
The Motor Traders' Association (MTA) is the peak industry body for the motor industry in NSW. Its members are governed by a "Code of Ethics'' in their dealings with consumers.
The MTA's new pre purchase vehicle inspection provides purchasers of used motor vehicles an inspection report on a vehicle they are interested in buying.
A report delivered in hard copy and electronically will inform purchasers of the overall condition of the vehicle.
The fully electronic inspection system allows a qualified operator to enter the required information into a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) similar to a laptop computer, and this data is then transferred to a central management system for storage, dispersal and display, as required/requested by the customer.
The software for this system is owned by Axis Universal, a division of the Manheim (Fowles) Auction Group. Currently the system is used to conduct in excess of 160,000 vehicle inspections per year.
The pre purchase vehicle inspection service operates out of MTA NSW Sydney offices.
