Industry Specialist Mentoring for Australian Apprentices (ISMAA)

The Federal Government is processing tenders for a National program aimed at improving Apprentice and Trainee retention rates. The program is called Industry Specialist Mentoring for Australian Apprentices.

This program will target 45,000 apprentices in their first two years of training. It will provide support and assistance for these apprentices with Industry specialists who can provide advice and support to resolve issues that increase the risk of the apprentice leaving the industry / employment.

Applications for the tender closed on 13th October and the program is due to start in November 2017. The successful tender applicants will be contracted to provide these services until 31st December 2019.

The announcement provides us with some confidence that the government takes our industry skills shortage as a serious concern and is doing something that will help. The announcement was made by the Assistant Minister for Vocational Education and Skills, Karen Andrews MP.
