Kody Garland Racing

Symmons Plains, TAS

Garry Rogers Motorsport Team Valvoline driver Kody Garland has been ruled out for the remainder of AWC Race Tasmania after his incident during opening practice of Supercheap Auto TCR Australia at Symmons Plains.

In his maiden appearance in the class, Garland lost control on the back sweeper and hit the wall heavily, causing significant damage to his Team Valvoline Garry Rogers Motorsport Renault Megane R.S.

“We’ve all put so much effort into this over the last couple of weeks and for it to end this way is certainly not the way we wanted,” Garland summarised.

“With the pace I was showing yesterday, it was looking good so I’ve learnt that one the hard way.

”Garland further detailed the extent of the damage as he targets to come back strongly at Phillip Island.

“Obviously with the contact to the wall it looks like the strut tower is damaged, so it’s fairly structural,” he said. “Repairable, but not at the track for this weekend.

“I was just so keen to go out there today and it just breaks your heart that you can’t get out there.

“Anyway, I can’t wait for the next round, we’ll get it fixed and get back out there.

”Supercheap Auto TCR Australia Series drivers and teams now turn focus to tomorrow’s two-part qualifying at 2:25pm AEDT before the opening race at 4:25pm AEDT.

Mount Panorama: 25 - 28th February Summary

Fantastic results from Kody Garland at Mount Panorama this weekend. In his post race interview he states "What a weekend!! All done and dusted here in Bathurst, today I came away with an extremely close 4th place in the Aussie car finishing six one thousandths behind third place and only 1 second behind the lead of the race. I’m really proud of our achievements this weekend and can’t wait for the next round. Unfortunately in the Toyota 86 in race 2 another competitor ran into me and put me into the wall, it was an amazing effort by my team to get the car back on the track for the final race. Unfortunately after all the effort to get back on the track the car had ABS issues after the impact and had lost power so it was hard to salvage a result. All in all I’m happy with the weekend and can’t wait to do it again. A massive thanks goes to my team and all of my sponsors for all of their efforts, it wouldn’t happen without them!!"

Saturday Wrap Up

A Top Day for Kody Garland Racing at Mt Panorama, after putting the Motor Traders' Association of New South Wales Mustang on the Battery World Aussie Racing Cars pole yesterday, today Kody took his first race win in the class. The only rain at the circuit all day came just as the Aussie Cars left pitlane on the warm-up lap, so a very slippery greasy track greeted the field as the came around to line up on the grid.
"It was incredibly slippery across the top of the Mountain and being the car in the lead I was the first to see just how much grip we had, it was fun!" Kody etched out a 5 second lead over the second placed car when the chequred flag came out. "A couple of laps in the car started to lose some power and I realised we had broken a cam shaft, luckily it held together for the whole race," said Kody.

The engine caught fire just as he arrived back into the pits! A full engine and gearbox change was needed, and had to be completed within two hours before the second race, it was all hands on deck!  The engine change was only completed as the Aussie Cars left pitlane for the warm-up lap, Kody missed the pitlane close and had to wait at pit exit, and started as the whole field filed past up mountain straight, he made up 20 places to finish in 10th.

Tomorrows final race sees Kody start fifth and well within striking distance of taking a round win. Of the  Toyota Gazoo Racing Australia   T86 racing today Kody said "it was okay, I made up 4 spots I think... just getting used to the car still, the Aussie Car and the T86 are like Chalk and Cheese, but loads of fun."

Kody had a great qualifying run on his first day at Mt Panorama in the Aussie Racing Car series, where he finished first pole!  It is fantastic to see all his hard work paying off, and we wish him luck at his race tomorrow.
With the Toyota 86, Kody mentioned "the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing Australia 86 only had 1 session today, a bit of work to do there but I’m sure we will sort it out."
