2018 Team Talk
The 086 Rallying Team – Andrew Chapman Racing
Rally is a form of motorsport that takes place on public or private roads with modified production or specially built road-legal rally cars. It is distinguished by running not on a circuit, but instead on closed gravel forest roads in a point-to-point format in which Drivers and their Co-drivers race against the clock to set the fastest time across a given route.
The 086 Rallying is a Newcastle (Nelson Bay) based team. Team Driver Andrew Chapman and Co-Driver Nicole Chapman have over 20 years’ combined experience on gravel and tarmac rallies. The Team debut its new Toyota 86 rally car in July 2017 with immediate success with podium places.
The 86 rally car is loosely based upon the Toyota 86 Race Series regulations and uses a standard Toyota 86 engine controlled by a Motec M150 turned computer, 6 speed close ration transmission and Kaaz LSD differential. The suspension has been upgraded to MCA gravel rally specification and 4 pot brake callipers have been fitted front and rear which are controlled via custom made pedal box.
The car has been under constant development at each of the three test events in 2017. The Team has now evolved the Toyota 86 from standard running gear to a highly tuned faster car ready for a full year of rallying in 2018.
The Team welcomes MTA NSW on board and looks forward to the MTA NSW Rally Championship 2018 season.
