MTA NSW Fuel Watch - 6 August

Fuel Watch update

To keep members informed, we have prepared a brief update on the current fuel supply situation.

6 August 2026

Broader economic pressures remain closely linked to global oil prices, fuel supply constraints and ongoing geopolitical tensions. This increase is largely attributed to rising global oil prices and supply constraints linked to ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

Members are also reminded that the Australian Government's temporary fuel excise reduction has now ended.

The change has increased the cost of regular unleaded, with prices in many areas now approaching or exceeding $2.00 per litre.

While fuel prices naturally fluctuate between locations and retailers, the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, along with the end of the excise relief, is expected to keep upward pressure on prices in the short term.
