Advocacy Win: Faster Processing Times for MVTC Applications

The Motor Traders’ Association of NSW (MTA NSW) has secured an important advocacy outcome for the automotive industry, with NSW Fair Trading significantly reducing wait times for Motor Vehicle Tradesperson Certificate (MVTC) applications.

Following direct engagement by MTA NSW in March, NSW Fair Trading has acted on industry feedback and cut average processing times by more than 60% - from around 50 days down to just 17 days over the past four months.

This improvement means applicants can now access their certificates much faster, reducing delays to employment and helping businesses onboard skilled tradespeople more efficiently.

An MVTC is required to perform repair work on motor vehicles in NSW, even if you already hold a motor vehicle repairer licence. To apply, individuals must hold the appropriate qualifications for each class of repair work and cannot be an apprentice or trainee.
