Michael (Mike) Killen has been elected to the MTA NSW Executive Board following the Australian Electoral Commission’s declaration of the result for the casual vacancy.
The result was formally declared on 14 September 2026.
Mike operates his own business, Killens Smash Repairs in Armidale, which has been a long-standing Member of MTA NSW since 1973. His extensive experience in the family-owned smash repair business provides him with practical insight into the day-to-day realities facing automotive operators.
Mike currently serves as an MTA NSW Advisory Councillor and Area Representative for the New England and Northern Tablelands, roles through which he has actively represented industry interests and developed a strong understanding of the issues affecting automotive businesses across NSW, particularly regional members.
Mike’s practical industry experience will be valuable as the Executive Board continues to consider key challenges facing the automotive sector, including skills shortages, evolving vehicle technology, increasing regulation and rising business costs.
As this is Mike’s first appointment to the Executive Board, he will bring a fresh operational perspective while working closely with the Board to support practical policies that strengthen automotive businesses, promote high-quality training, assist members to adapt to industry change, maintain strong professional standards and support clear communication with members.
His appointment further supports the Association’s focus on strong leadership, collaboration and effective representation as the automotive industry continues to evolve.
Mike now joins the MTA NSW Executive Board with a commitment to contributing his industry experience, continuing to represent members’ interests and working collaboratively with the Board in support of the broader automotive industry across NSW.
