MTA Group 2026-27 Federal Pre-budget Submission

The MTA Group has
lodged a submission to the Federal Government outlining our priorities for the
2026-27 Federal Budget, on behalf of automotive businesses across New South
Wales and the ACT, with recommendations applicable nationwide. The submission
focuses on the critical role the automotive retail, service and repair sector
plays in Australia’s economy and its contribution to achieving national
emissions reduction targets. It highlights the scale of change facing the
industry as the vehicle fleet transitions toward lower- and zero-emission
technologies, and the importance of policy settings that support both
environmental outcomes and business sustainability.
The submission sets out
six strategic priority areas, including workforce development, fair trading
frameworks, support for the New Vehicle Efficiency Standard, assistance for
small businesses in the zero-emissions transition, targeted taxation reform, and
improved approaches to vehicle end-of-life management. It calls for practical
and achievable government partnership to ensure automotive businesses,
employees and apprentices have access to the skills, infrastructure and
investment needed to adapt to this transformation, while continuing to deliver
essential services to motorists and contribute to the national economy.
