MTA NSW Visits Innovative Tyre Retreading Facility in the Hunter Region

MTA NSW Head of Government Relations, Collin Jennings, recently visited FlexTred Mining and Industrial in Kurri Kurri alongside Federal Member for the Hunter, Dan Repacholi MP, following an invitation from Tyre Stewardship Australia.

The visit provided a firsthand look at FlexTred's innovative approach to retreading mining tyres, extending the life of tyres that would otherwise be discarded. By reusing existing tyre casings, retreading can reduce the raw materials and energy required to manufacture new tyres, helping lower emissions while reducing waste.

The visit follows MTA NSW's submission to the Federal Inquiry into the Future of the Tyre Industry in Australia, where we advocated for the introduction of a mandatory national tyre stewardship scheme to improve environmental outcomes and support a more sustainable automotive industry.

Initiatives such as FlexTred's demonstrate the innovation taking place in regional New South Wales and the important role the automotive industry can play in supporting a more circular economy while maintaining high standards of safety and performance.

MTA NSW thanks Tyre Stewardship Australia for the invitation, along with Brian Gulley and Matthew Torrance from FlexTred Mining and Industrial for showcasing their operation and sharing their expertise.
