Motor Traders' Association of New South Wales 2026-2027 Pre Budget Submission

The Motor Traders’ Association of NSW (MTA NSW) has lodged a submission to the NSW Government outlining our priorities for the 2026–27 State Budget, on behalf of automotive retail, service and repair businesses across New South Wales. The submission highlights the essential contribution these businesses make to the state’s economy and addresses the significant transformation underway as the vehicle fleet shifts toward zero- and low-emission technologies. It emphasises the need for policy settings that support industry viability while enabling progress toward emissions reduction objectives.

The submission focuses on four strategic priority areas: workforce development and skills investment, targeted support for small businesses transitioning to zero-emission vehicles, taxation reform for automotive retail, and updates to the Automotive Identification Scheme (AIS). It outlines practical and achievable measures that call for partnership with government to ensure automotive businesses, employees and apprentices are equipped with the skills, training and infrastructure required to adapt to change, while continuing to provide essential services to motorists across New South Wales.
