MVTC Requirements for Prospective Tradespeople
MTA NSW wishes to highlight an important reminder from
NSW Fair Trading regarding the Motor Vehicle Tradesperson Certificate (MVTC),
which is required to legally perform repair work on motor vehicles in NSW.
Prospective tradespeople - and those supporting them - have mandatory legal requirements when applying for an MVTC. Applicants must not be
registered as an apprentice or trainee at the time of application, in
accordance with section 26 of the Motor Dealers and Repairers Act 2013.
It is also critical
that all information provided in an application is accurate. If false
information is submitted - even unintentionally - the MVTC may be cancelled,
and applicants may face penalties under the Crimes Act 1900.
Please reference this flyer for students, which provides detailed
guidance on applying for an MVTC. We encourage members and industry partners to
share this information across their networks, helping ensure that prospective
tradespeople are well-informed and compliant with the requirements.

information, and to access official guidance on the Motor Vehicle Tradesperson
Certificate, visit the NSW Fair Trading website.
